The Purpose Of Meditation & Mindfulness

Today I wanted to share a little bit about mindfulness and the power of being. The purpose of meditation is to take you from a moment of doing into a state of being. When we allow ourselves time to rest and reset multiple benefits arise.

When most of us think of mindfulness we think about being “mindful” of our actions. To mindful of how we go about our day. To be kind to others, to be aware of others, and to bring intention into our actions.

While all of those things above are not bad; there is a common key component within all of those. They are all in a state of “doing” & mindfulness is all about being in a state of “being”. My favorite description about mindfulness comes from the creator of MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction) Jon Kabat-Zinn.

Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally

I like to add in slowing down enough to be mindfully aware…. Because often times we are running around in a constant state of chaos which doesn’t allow us time to be truly present in the moment.

So do me a favor… TRY THIS… well after reading the rest of the blog post.

Find a safe space to be fully present. Allow the eyes to close, the body to settle in, and just listen to the sounds around you. As sounds fall in and out of your awareness try to just let them be… let go of attaching too much emotion or feeling to them. Let them float in & float out.

That my friend is mindfulness.
