My Favorite Fall Dessert Recipe

Welcome to my corner of the internet! Today I am sharing my favorite fall dessert recipe that I make every year. This is a delicious seasonal dessert option with a healthy twist. The recipe itself is super easy, and doesn’t take up a lot of time! Let’s bite in!

How to Make Delicious & Healthy Apple Donuts

Looking for a quick and fun way to enjoy a healthier snack that still satisfies your sweet tooth? Enter apple donuts! These fruity treats are a perfect blend of nutritious and delicious, offering all the crispness of fresh apples with the satisfying indulgence of your favorite toppings. Plus, they’re super simple to make.

Ingredients:

  • Fresh apples (choose your favorite kind—Honeycrisp or Granny Smith work well!)
  • Puff Pastry – 2 packs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tablespoon of water
  • Cinnamon
  • Sugar
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Local Honey
  • Any other toppings you enjoy (granola, honey, or even a drizzle of caramel)

Instructions: Set Oven to 375

  • Slice the Apples
Start by cutting your apples into thick rounds, about ¼ inch thick. Use an apple corer or a small circular cookie cutter to remove the center, creating the “donut hole.”
  • Wrap the Apples
Take the puffy pastry and spread it out on your cutting board. Cut thin slices of the puff pastry about 1cm to 1 1/2 cm wide! Wrap the pastry around the apple slices making sure there isn’t a ton of space between each wrapping.
    • Pro tip: Make sure the pastry is still cold when you are wrapping. This makes it easier because it won’t stick to your fingers. Also this wrapping doesn’t have to be perfect! I messed up a lot when wrapping but you never know once they are baked!
  • Add Your Base
Mix the 1 egg and your tablespoon of water and wipe across the apples on your cookie sheet. This acts as the perfect “glue” for all the toppings you’re about to pile on.
  • Get Creative with Toppings
Sprinkle your cinnamon and sugar mix all over each apple slice.
    • Pro tip: I mix mine together and place it in a spice bottle to make for an even coating of the cinnamon & sugar mix! Pop into the oven for 15 minutes at 375.
      • If you are adding additional fixins I would wait until about 5 minutes before you take them out to add on nuts or granola. This will leave them warm but not burnt.
  • Add the Honey Drizzle
Once you have take the donuts out of the oven, drizzle local honey over the top of each apple followed by sprinkling on the powdered sugar! That is it! You have a delicious apple treat!

Why Apple Donuts are a Great Choice

Not only are these apple donuts fun to make, but they’re also packed with nutrients. Apples are rich in fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants. It’s the perfect combination of flavors and textures for the season!

Mindfulness tip: Close your eyes for a moment, take an apple crisp donut and take a bite. Let it warm up your mouth, taste all the flavors, notice the temperature, texture, the sounds, and the tastes. Then swallow! It will taste way better when you are present!

ENJOY!
